About QR Codes
QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that can store text, URLs, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, and more. They're readable by any smartphone camera and are widely used in marketing, payments, networking, and product packaging.
Content Types
- Text / URL — Any plain text or web address. URLs are automatically opened in the browser when scanned.
- Wi-Fi — Encodes your network name, password, and security type. Scanning auto-connects the device — perfect for guest networks, cafes, or Airbnbs.
- Email — Pre-fills a new email with recipient, subject, and body. Useful for feedback forms or support contacts.
- Phone — Encodes a phone number for one-tap dialing when scanned.
Error Correction
QR codes include redundant data so they can be read even when partially damaged or obscured. Higher error correction means more redundancy but a denser (more complex) code:
- Low (7%) — Smallest QR code, best for clean digital display
- Medium (15%) — Good default for most uses
- Quartile (25%) — Good for printed materials that might get scuffed
- High (30%) — Best for codes that will have a logo overlaid on the center
Tips for Best Results
- Keep content short — shorter text produces simpler, more scannable codes
- Use high contrast between foreground and background colors
- Test your QR code with multiple devices before printing
- For print, use at least 1024×1024 or export as SVG for lossless scaling
