About Fantasy Character Customizer
What It Does
The Fantasy Character Customizer is a companion tool to the NPC Generator. While the NPC Generator creates random characters, the Customizer lets you edit every detail by hand — refining generated characters or building entirely new ones from scratch.
Features
- Load .rpgcharacter files — open characters saved from the NPC Generator or previous sessions
- Edit every field — name, race, class, level, alignment, background, occupation, appearance, personality, quirks, and motivation
- Dropdowns for standard fields — race, class, alignment, and background use select menus with SRD options
- Free-text for everything else — write your own traits, appearance, and backstory
- Save as .rpgcharacter — download your character as a portable JSON file
- Export as text or markdown — copy formatted output for notes, wikis, or VTT platforms
Workflow
- Use the NPC Generator to create a random character
- Save as .rpgcharacter
- Open in the Character Customizer
- Refine the details — rewrite the appearance, adjust the personality, change the name
- Save your final version

All character content you create or edit here is yours to use, share, and modify freely — including for commercial projects such as adventures, campaigns, supplements, or fiction. No permission needed.
Game data (races, classes, backgrounds, alignments) is inspired by, adapted from, and expanded beyond the Systems Reference Document 5.1 by Wizards of the Coast. All content available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser. No data is sent to any server. Your characters stay on your device.
